Recycling since
before the rules

In 2009, most of India's old computers and phones ended up in backyard workshops, burned or acid-washed for a few grams of metal. Mohammed Ali started Prince Recyclers in Bengaluru that year.

2009 → 2026

17 years of changing rules

We started before India had an e-waste law. Here is how the rules changed after that.

    Prince Recyclers is founded

Mohammed Ali starts Prince Recyclers in Bengaluru. India has no dedicated e-waste law yet, and most of the country's old electronics are being burned or acid-washed in backyard workshops.

  2. 2011

    India's first e-waste rules

The E-Waste (Management & Handling) Rules are notified and take effect in 2012. Responsible recycling now has a legal framework.

  3. 2016

    Producers become responsible

The E-Waste Management Rules 2016 bring in Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR): brands must ensure their products are collected and recycled.

  4. 2022

    Solar joins the list

The E-Waste Management Rules 2022 (in force April 2023) introduce EPR certificates and add solar PV panels and cells to the materials that must be recycled responsibly.

  5. 2025

Most e-waste now goes to formal recyclers

India formally collects and processes about 70% of the e-waste it generates, up from around 10% less than a decade earlier.

Prince Recyclers is still working in Bengaluru, now handling solar panels as well as IT equipment.

What we stand for

How we work

01

Weighed and logged

Every load is weighed, and devices are logged so you can trace them from your site to recovery.

02

Data destroyed

Drives are wiped or shredded before anything leaves our hands, and you get a certificate.

03

Materials recovered

Metals and plastics go back to manufacturers. Landfill is the last resort.

04

No burning or acid

Hazardous parts are taken out by trained staff and sent to authorised facilities.

What we handle

Anything electronic

Computers, servers, phones, circuit boards, cables, appliances and solar panels.
